ELECTED ARTIST EXHIBITION - 2002
Third Place Award

JUROR'S STATEMENT: "As juror I selected the chosen pieces based on a combination of things.  The base line in this preliminary selection was academic skill.  This is not to say that skill is never presented with naivete.  Technique without content is hollow.  Content also played a part in my choice; as did compostion and use of space within  the picture plane or in the case of  three dimentions, within the room.  The final choices were made based on my personal reaction to these factors and to the object.  A successful work of art communicates through an intellectual  and a physical response from the viewer.  Hopefully, each of the works I have awarded recognition, succeed in delivering a similar reaction in you."

Professor of Studio Art, Connecticut College

JUROR'S NOTES: "I looked for quality, skill, image, technique, visual effect, impact, and narrative.  I found these within landscapes, portraits, figure studies, still life images, fantasy worlds, and abstracts. Connecticut artists are talented and inventive."
